what is the forbidden button?
The Forbidden Button is a free browser comedy game about the one thing you were told not to touch. Welcome to Blamco Interdimensional Research. You're the new hire, the entire job is one big red button in the middle of the room, and nobody will tell you what it does. Your only instruction: walk into it with your body. Do it 500 times and corporate sends you a mug.
The catch is that every press mildly ruins a universe somewhere, and reality starts filing complaints. Gravity flips. The floor turns to soup. The colours invert. Everyone becomes bread. Meanwhile a burping voice in the ceiling narrates your every mistake and cheerfully reminds you that the doors are decorative and you are entirely replaceable. There's no download and no install — it runs right in your browser.
how to play
The goal is simple: reach 500 presses of the big red button without letting your sanity run out. You press the button by physically walking your character into it, over and over, while the game rewrites its own rules around you and various distractions try to end your shift early.
controls
- Move: W A S D or the arrow keys.
- Press the button: walk your character into the big red button — there's no separate press key, your body is the input.
- Survive: keep your sanity meter from emptying as reality glitches around you.
The Forbidden Button is designed for desktop with a keyboard.
tips & tricks
- Learn the glitches, don't panic at them. Inverted gravity, grayscale "budget cuts", and a sentient cursor all change how you move — each one has a rhythm, and once you know it you can keep pressing straight through.
- Ignore the distractions that don't touch your sanity. The rat, the placebo button, and the interdimensional pop-up ad are mostly there to bait you off the button. Stay on task.
- Keep pressing during calm windows. Between glitches you get brief normal stretches — bank as many presses as you can before reality changes the rules again.
- Watch the sanity meter, not the boss. The voice in the ceiling is all bark; your sanity meter is what actually ends the run. Manage it and you'll reach the mug.
- Turn the sound on. Half the game is the burping narrator and the emergency decrees of the fish government — and the audio cues tell you when a glitch is starting.
